Version 2.0, effective October 24, 2026
Terms of Use
1. Acceptance of Terms
Entangled is a mobile application of Entangled Labs, LLC ("Entangled", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using the application, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use ("Terms") and by the Privacy Policy and Communications Policy below, which are part of them. If you do not agree to these Terms, you should not use or access the application.
2. Who Can Use Entangled
You must be at least 13, or the minimum age required where you live if it is higher, to use Entangled. If you are under 18, please read these Terms with a parent or guardian. You may not use Entangled where the law does not allow you to.
3. Use of the Application
Every 10 minutes Entangled gives each account 200 random bits from quantum hardware and shows how far they, your city and the whole network stray from chance. The application is for curiosity, reflection and informational purposes only. Its data and results are not predictions or advice, are not intended to be relied upon for any decision-making, and should be considered purely informational. Random data looks unusual by chance alone from time to time.
4. Your Account
You sign in with your mobile phone number and a code we send to it. You agree to provide accurate and complete information and to keep it up to date, to use your account only for yourself, and to keep access to your phone number secure: whoever receives the codes can use your account. Tell us at [email protected] if you think someone else has used it.
5. Community Guidelines
Your name, username and photo must not:
- impersonate anyone or mislead others about who you are;
- be hateful, harassing, threatening, sexually explicit, violent or otherwise objectionable;
- infringe anyone's rights or break the law.
Do not interfere with Entangled, its hardware or the way it assigns random bits; do not access it by automated means, overload it, or try to get around its limits or security; and do not tamper with its data. We may remove content, and suspend or close accounts, that break these Terms.
6. Communications
By creating an account, you agree to receive SMS messages from us with sign-in codes. Standard messaging, data, and other fees may apply, and you are responsible for these charges. With your permission the application also sends push notifications, which you can turn off at any time.
7. Your Notes
Notes you write are private to you. You keep ownership of them and allow us to store and process them only to provide the application to you. You can edit or delete a note at any time.
8. Ownership of Data
Any random bit data generated by the mobile application or any other services provided by Entangled Labs, LLC ("Entangled") is the exclusive property of Entangled. Users acknowledge that such data is proprietary to Entangled and agree not to claim any ownership or usage rights over this data, except as explicitly granted or permitted by Entangled. This includes, but is not limited to, any numerical, graphical, or algorithmically-generated data produced by or made available through the application.
9. Restrictions on Use of Data
Users agree not to reproduce, replicate, copy, sell, resell, or exploit any portion of the random bit data without express written permission from Entangled. Users are permitted to use this data within the scope of the application's intended informational purposes but must not use it in any manner that infringes upon the proprietary rights of Entangled.
10. Intellectual Property
All intellectual property rights in and to the application, including but not limited to design, structure, and functionality, along with the random bit data produced, are owned by Entangled Labs, LLC. The use of the application does not transfer any intellectual property rights to the user.
11. No Warranties
The application is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties of any kind, and we do not promise that the application or its data will always be available, complete or free of errors.
12. Limitation of Liability
In no event will Entangled Labs, LLC be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the application.
13. Ending Your Account
You can delete your account at any time in Settings. We may suspend or close your account if you break these Terms, or if we stop offering Entangled. The sections on data, intellectual property, warranties and liability continue to apply after your account ends.
14. Changes to These Terms
We may change these Terms. When we do, the application shows the new version and asks you to accept it before you continue. If you do not accept it, you can delete your account.
15. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by the laws of the State of California.
16. Contact Information
For any questions about these Terms, please contact us at [email protected].
Privacy Policy
1. Who We Are
Entangled Labs, LLC, a California company, runs Entangled and is responsible for your information. You can reach us at [email protected].
2. Information We Collect
- Account: your phone number (to sign you in), name, username, your photo if you add one, and your city. You choose your city from a list built into the application; it sends us only the city your town counts toward, and it never asks for or reads your location.
- Your acceptance of these terms: the version you accepted and when.
- Random-bit data: the bits your account receives every 10 minutes, their sums and scores, whether they were unusual, and the city they counted toward, kept under a permanent account number (a "slot") rather than your name or phone number.
- Notes you write, with when you wrote them.
- Settings: whether alerts are on, and your quiet hours.
- This phone, for notifications: an installation number the application creates, a push token from Apple or Google (through Expo), the platform, application version, time zone, language and whether notifications are allowed. Your time zone sets your quiet hours.
- Security records: when you ask for a sign-in code we keep scrambled (keyed-hash) forms of your phone number and IP address to stop abuse. Sign-in sessions are kept with the installation number and application version, and their keys only in hashed form. Our hosting provider processes your IP address to deliver the service and protect it from attack.
- Crash and error reports: what went wrong and where in the code, the screen it happened on and the screens opened just before it, the application version, details of the phone such as its model, system version, language and time zone, and a separate random installation number that Sentry creates. To count how often the application crashes, it also tells Sentry when it is opened and whether it closed normally. These reports are set up to leave out your name, username, phone number, notes and photo.
We do not collect your precise location, contacts, advertising identifiers or browsing activity, and the application reads only the one photo you choose. Entangled shows no ads and uses no tracking or third-party usage analytics. Crash and error reports are used only to find and fix problems.
3. How We Use Information
We use this information to:
- sign you in and keep your account secure;
- give you your bits and show your data, charts, notes and activity;
- combine everyone's bits by city and across the whole network;
- send the notifications you allow, at the right local time;
- run, protect and improve Entangled, and prevent abuse;
- meet our legal obligations.
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
4. What Others Can See
In this version of Entangled no other member sees your name, username, photo, city or notes. City and network results, including the globe, are shown to everyone only as totals, and a city's results appear only when at least 3 members counted toward it in every 10-minute window of the period shown.
Even so, in a small city, members who compare their own results with the city's could estimate another member's results, and in a city of 3, two members together could work out the third member's results exactly. Those results come only from the random bits that member's account received, not from anything else about the person.
5. Service Providers
These companies process information for us, only to provide Entangled:
- Twilio sends sign-in codes by SMS.
- Expo, Apple (Apple Push Notification service) and Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging) deliver notifications; Expo also delivers application updates.
- Vercel hosts our servers and stores profile photos.
- Neon runs our database.
- Cloudflare runs our domain names and stores the archive of de-identified random-bit data.
- Sentry receives crash and error reports from the application and our servers, which are set up to leave out names, usernames, phone numbers, notes and photos.
- Slack receives our internal service alerts, which contain no names or phone numbers.
Our servers are in the United States, so your information is processed there. We may also disclose information when the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or others.
6. How Long We Keep Information
- Account information, settings and notes: until you delete them or your account.
- This phone's notification registration: until you sign out or delete your account.
- Sign-in sessions: up to 90 days after they were last used.
- Records of the notifications we sent you: 90 days.
- Crash and error reports: up to 90 days.
- Sign-in security records: 7 days. Counters that enforce usage limits: 31 days.
- Random-bit data: permanently, as part of the scientific record, under your slot number.
- The dates of a deleted account: permanently, with its random-bit data, but without the time of day (the random-bit data itself still shows the 10-minute windows in which the account received bits). An account moved from an earlier version of Entangled keeps the day it was moved, not its earlier dates.
- Backups and restore history of our database: erased within 90 days.
7. Deleting Your Account
You can delete your account in the application under Settings, Delete account. Your phone number, name, username, photo, notes and devices are erased right away. Your random-bit data stays in the record under an anonymous number, your account's dates are kept without the time of day, and backups are erased within 90 days. This cannot be undone.
Your sign-in sessions, notification records and usage counters are deleted at the same time. What stays is your random-bit data, the city it counted toward and the city and network totals it is part of, all under your slot number, which from then on is anonymous. Once the backups have expired, and the old systems' records have been deleted and their last backup erased (see Earlier Versions of Entangled), nothing links them to you or to your phone number or name.
If you cannot use the application, email [email protected] with your account's phone number. We will check that the number is yours before we delete the account.
8. Your Choices and Rights
In the application you can change your name, username, photo, city (once every 30 days) and notification settings, delete notes, and delete your account. To get a copy of your information, or to ask us to correct or delete it, email [email protected]. Depending on where you live, for example in the European Union, the United Kingdom or California, you may have further rights, such as to object to or restrict how we use your information, or to complain to a data protection authority. Contact us and we will help.
9. Children
Entangled is not intended for children under 13, or under the minimum age where they live if it is higher, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If we learn that such a child has an account, we will delete it.
10. Security
We protect your information with encrypted connections, hashed session keys and limited access. The application keeps a copy of your recent data on your phone so that it opens quickly, and erases it when you sign out. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your phone and your phone number safe.
11. Earlier Versions of Entangled
If you used Entangled before version 2.0, we moved your phone number, name, username, city and, where available, your photo to our new systems. We did not keep your address or map location (where your city was missing, your map location was used once to find it). When the old systems are shut down their records are deleted, except de-identified random-bit data, and their last backup is erased within 90 days. If you delete your account before then, the old systems' copy of your phone number, name and photo is deleted with them.
12. Changes to This Policy
If we change this policy, we will update it here and in the application. If a change affects how we use your information, the application will ask you to accept the new version.
13. Contact
For any questions about your privacy, please contact us at [email protected].
Communications Policy
1. SMS Messaging
We use SMS messaging only to send sign-in codes, through Twilio. By providing your phone number, you consent to receive these messages. Standard messaging and data fees may apply. We do not send marketing text messages.
2. Push Notifications
If you allow notifications, Entangled tells you each time your bits show a very interesting trend (a z-score of 3 or more in either direction), which chance alone produces about once every 3 days on average. From 11 PM to 7 AM your local time they arrive silently; you can turn quiet hours off in Settings. You can turn notifications off in Settings or in your phone's settings.
3. Contact Us
If you have any questions about our communications policy, please contact us at [email protected].
